Automatic Circuit Reclosers

An auto recloser clears a transient fault and restores supply by itself, so a feeder does not stay down waiting for a crew. We supply three models covering 15.5kV through 38kV.

The range

Three voltage classes on one control platform. The REC15 and REC25 share a tank and cabinet form factor; the REC35 uses separate pole-mounted interrupters on a galvanised beam.

Technical parameters

Most faults on an overhead line are transient, and an auto recloser exploits that by re-closing automatically instead of locking out. All three models share the same protection philosophy and control platform; the differences are voltage class, current rating and fault duty.

Common to all three models

  • Rated operating sequence

    O-0.1s-CO-2s-CO-2s-CO, per IEC 62271-111 and IEEE C37.60.

  • Magnetic actuator

    No spring charging mechanism to maintain. The Rec35 uses a monostable magnetic actuator.

  • Operating temperature

    Rated from −40°C to +55°C, at up to 100% condensing humidity.

  • Altitude

    REC15 and REC25 are rated to 2000 m, the Rec35 to 4500 m, with derating per ANSI C37.60 applied above 1000 m.

  • Pollution level

    Rated for very heavy pollution per IEC 60815, which suits coastal and industrial installations.

  • Supply and backup

    85 to 265 V AC or 110 to 220 V DC, with up to 48 hours of operation from the internal battery if auxiliary supply is lost.

Control, measurement and communications

RC5_4 recloser control

Each recloser ships with the RC5_4 control cabinet, rated IP65 (IP66 on the Rec35). It carries the protection functions, the measurement system and the communications modules, and runs the operating sequence.

Digital input and output modules are available in two variants: IOM-04 for 12 to 60 V DC signalling, and IOM-03 for 110 to 220 V DC.

Measurement accuracy

Phase current measurement is accurate to the greater of ±1% or ±2 A on the REC15 and REC25, across 0 to 800 A. Voltage measurement is accurate to the greater of ±1% or ±0.1 kV.

Communications options include a 10/100 wired Ethernet port, an optical Ethernet module and a Wi-Fi module with WPA/WPA2 security and roughly 50 m range for on-site configuration.
