Pre-Commissioning Inspection
A physical check of the installation before anything is energised, because problems are cheaper to find now.
Pre-commissioning inspection is the last opportunity to find an installation problem while the equipment is still safely de-energised. Everything after this point is testing with the primary circuit live or partially live.
It is a systematic physical check rather than a walk-past, and it produces a record of what was found and what was corrected.
What the inspection covers
- Termination condition and tightness
- Earthing and bonding continuity
- Mechanical mounting and structural fixing
- Cable condition, support and gland integrity
- Phase identification and labelling
- Enclosure sealing and IP integrity
- Clearances to conductors, ground and structures
What matters in practice

Cheapest point to find a fault
A loose termination found during inspection costs minutes. The same termination found after energising costs an outage, and possibly equipment.

Labelling is a safety issue
The next person to work on this installation relies on the labelling being correct. Incorrect phase identification is a hazard, not an inconvenience.

Sealing before the first rain
IP integrity is checked before handover, because water ingress into a control cabinet is discovered at the worst possible moment otherwise.

Recorded findings
What was inspected, what was found and what was corrected goes into the commissioning record.
