Network Integration

Making new equipment part of the existing network rather than an island sitting next to it.

New equipment has to work with what is already on the feeder. That means the physical connection into the network, and it means the protection settings coordinating with the devices upstream and downstream.

Integration done as an afterthought produces equipment that works perfectly in isolation and causes problems the first time there is a real fault.

What network integration covers

What matters in practice

  • Coordination before energising

    Protection settings are worked out against the devices already on the feeder, not applied from a default file.

  • Outage planning

    Most tie-ins need an outage. Planning the switching sequence in advance keeps that window as short as possible.

  • Network records

    A network diagram that no longer matches reality is a hazard for the next person working on the feeder. Changes get documented.

  • Verified afterwards

    Integration is confirmed during commissioning through network integration verification, not assumed to be correct.
